O’Fallon fights Mesothelioma: Tax concessions make way for asbestos cleanup
April 25, 2008 on 12:47 am | In Mesothelioma News |MISSOURI, April 21, 2008 - A builder projecting a $38.5 million residential and commercial plaza in O’Fallon, Missouri was surprised when the labor leveling the site last year brought out an unlawful deposit filled with asbestos piping, big-sized barrels, second hand hypodermic needles, and other illegal stuff.
Asbestos is an unsafe fibrous amphibole that can cause diseases such as Mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer. An environmental research of the place figured that there are 34,000 tons of asbestos dumped at its southern end.
Asbestos cleanup process is estimated to cost approximately 2.2 million USD, and city officials have now sanctioned the formation of a community improvement district to recoup the builder for the process.
